The word merit generally signifies the quality of being good; something that possesses the
character of being competent and valued states the dictionary. This is what will come to people’s
mind as well. The notion is to produce such quality and worthy work and take creation and
construction to the next, spectacular level. That is why the company has been named ‘Merit League’.
Merit League (ML) is a contracting company which began its journey in 2018. It was founded by Gowri Shankar, guided by his mentors Ar. Tahaer Zoyab (fondly referred to as Godfather by Gowri), Ar. Anupriya Subbian, and his constant source of support, Binsan Oommen Baby (or Bobby), his ‘Malayali’ photographer friend.
Gowri remembers one particular incident that gave the boost to set up ML. “It must have been post 07:00 pm that day”, he recollects. “Bobby and I were chatting about a project that I was going to take up, Kalai Illam. I was quite nervous about it, contemplating how best to go about the project, anxious about whether I could handle the investment and the work. That was when Bob lent his shoulder and words of wisdom. He said ‘Don’t miss this chance. You will learn only through collaboration, through making mistakes. I’m here, no matter what happens.’ His words resonated with me and gave the push I needed at that point in time”. ML was born.
